Korematsu Liaison Needed for Davis School Foundation

Spring 2010 Dollar a Day Campaign

The Davis School Foundation’s 2010 campaign (March 15-May 1) needs a volunteer to serve at liaison between the foundation and Korematsu. (We’re the only elementary school without one). The campaign will raise funds to offset up to $5.6 million in state funding cuts for Davis schools in 2010-11. The cuts may affect up to 60 teachers, 20 site supervisors, secretaries and custodial staff, and 7 counselors.

The main responsibilities of the liaison include:

  • Keeping the school office and bulletin boards updated with posters and brochures about the campaign.
  • Sharing updates with KPTO about campaign progress.
  • Participation in “School Donation Days” (each school designates a certain number of days in a given week/or a week when the school can focus on informing families about the campaign)

District Dollars: The new DJUSDD Budget Website

As part of the district’s ongoing effort to keep the community informed, Superintendent James Hammond recently introduced District Dollars. District Dollars (http://www.districtdollars.org/) is a web-based, interactive program to help you understand the DJUSD budget situation. It provides information on:

  • How California pays for schools
  • How much money the district gets and how it is spent
  • The different options for balancing the budget
  • The superintendent’s reduction plan

District Dollars lets you ask questions, provide feedback and share your own values about education priorities. This information will be reviewed by administration and the Board of Education throughout the budget process.

District Dollars will be available as a Quick Link on the DJUSD website (http://www.djusd.net/ ) through June, when the Board will adopt a final budget for the 2010-11 school year. You are invited to visit the site at your convenience.
