Dear DJUSD Employees, Families and Partners,
California school districts are making major adjustments to continue educating their students in these tough economic times. The dedicated DJUSD teachers, support staff and administrators serving our children are also adjusting to this new economic reality. I would like to remind everyone that none of you are the blame for the reductions that must be made in DJUSD. We find ourselves in this current economic state because the California legislature has perpetually cut school funding.
Determining where to make reductions in the District’s budget is not an easy task since every position is vital to the smooth running of our District. Yes, Measure “C” provides funding that supports valuable program and positions in our District; however, it does not replace the money that we have been shorted by the state. Staff reductions are very serious to us; we do not take them and their impacts lightly. Congruently, district office staff and site principals will continually explore all available ways to mitigate the impacts that reductions have on the services we provide to students and families.
We are proud of our high academic achievement and we have retained fiscal solvency when many districts have not. We will fight hard to protect both of these valuable commodities that make Davis schools desirable. Looking forward, our goal is to be creative, remain professional and support each other as we navigate these difficult times.
My office is open if you would like to learn more about academic achievement in DJUSD or our budget.
Thanks for your support of Davis Schools.
Regards,
Winfred B. Roberson, Jr.
Superintendent

From the Davis Unified School District
It was reported this morning, March 27 that students from Chavez Elementary School, while walking home after school, were approached by a man in a white van on Oak Street. The students making the report informed their parents and the Davis Police Department was notified. The police informed the parents that they will also have more of a presence in the area over the next few days.
If you witnessed this event or have any further information, please call the Davis Police Department at 747-5400.
Please impress upon your children to follow these basic rules when walking to or from school:
