A parent has reported that a bicycle that had been left over night on campus was gone in the morning. Remember that while Davis has a low record for many types of crimes, it makes up for it in bicycle thefts. In this case the bicycle was a locked-up Gary Fisher, turquoise blue-and-white mountain bike with 2 black baskets. The helmet, lock and everything were all taken. If anyone has information that may help in its recovery, please contact the police with the information.

Be sure to pick up your bikes later in the day if you can’t pick them up right at pick-up time to avoid a similar situation.

Over the spring break the machine that runs the mailing list died (horrendously) and has only just been restored to working condition.

The office has requested a couple of volunteers to help out Friday (8/26) in putting labels on the Korematsu Student Handbook so they can be sent out on Monday. If anyone has the time to wander in for a short period of time tomorrow, please do so and ask Tammy or Pat for instructions on how to help. It’s not a huge amount of work and is an easy way to contribute quickly and positively to the school.

I really appreciate all the people that signed up at the “Paper Parade” and at the “Welcome Back Coffee” to help with the upcoming activities in the year. Many of the events simply couldn’t happen without people willing to step up and make them happen, and the KPTO board really appreciates the help that we receive — we couldn’t achieve the PTO’s goals without you.

For many activities, we know in advance what needs to be done (handing out bags to kids for pinatas, for example), how many people we need (we need 18 people to hold the Explorit Science night), but sometimes we don’t know in advance that help is needed (such as the above labelling request from the office above). In order to ensure the main mailing list is primarily focused on school news, I’ve created a new mailing list called “volunteers” specifically for organizing the smaller and easy-to-do tasks such as the one at the top of this message. If you’re willing to occasionally help out with small-to-medium sized tasks that might range from labelling handbooks to helping with the school banking program for an hour, we would greatly appreciate your willingness to sign up for this new mailing list. If you’re willing, please visit the sign-up link below. Thanks in advance for your support. It really contributes to everyone’s success.

 Sign Up Link: http://mail.korematsupto.org/mailman/listinfo/volunteers
