Registration Day at Korematsu

(The “Paper Parade”)

We are looking forward to the 2010-2011 school year, and are already beginning to plan. All of the DJUSD elementary schools will be holding a registration day prior to the first day of school. This day is designed to eliminate the shuffling of so much paper during the early days of school. It is also an opportunity to get assistance with paperwork, join the PTO, and receive your child’s room assignment for the year…one day in advance of the posting of class lists.

August: Make sure that you visit the DJUSD website and go to the forms link [Ed: turns out this should actually be the "enrollment materials link"] to read and print out all needed school registration forms. If you need hard copies, they can be picked up in the office daily, 8:00-3:30. Computers and printers will be available on registration day.

Monday, August 23th: Please join us in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) between 4:00 and 7:00pm. It is Registration Day for ALL students. Assistance in Spanish will be available. You will need to bring the following (or use our computers that evening):

Summary of Rights and Responsibilities and Student Standards (Summary Signature Form ONLY)

Emergency Card (2 copies) [Ed: this is not on the DJUSD site; will either be sent via mail or picked up that day on site.]

Free and Reduced Lunch Form (REQUIRED FOR ALL STUDENTS)

Do not release form for Directory (optional)

Denial of Permission to Display Student Image or Work (optional)

Student Accident Insurance (optional)

We will have a PTO table set up at this event. Be sure to stop by to join the PTO, sign up for committees and get important information about our school community. We hope to see you there!

Nikki Smith
Interim Principal

The Davis Schools Foundation is in full swing with its fundraising campaign and would greatly appreciate donations from all of our families to help save programs, support staff and teachers throughout the district.

The biggest Schoolapalooza event ever is this Saturday 4/24 (noon-4:30 pm) in downtown Davis. Shop downtown and support our schools. Businesses/restaurants will provide exciting raffle prizes and will donate a percentage of proceeds to our schools. Hanlees Auto Group will raffle one-year leases on two cars (choice of Toyota Prius or Nissan Cube); one vehicle will be raffled to a District employee, and one will be raffled to the community. Purchase raffle tickets at any So. Davis Hanlees dealership through Fri. 4/23, at Wednesday’s Farmers Market, or on Saturday during Schoolapolooza (11:30 am-3:30 pm). Raffle will take place @ E St. Plaza @ 3:45 pm. Need not be present to win. Raffle tickets cost $25/ea., or 5 tickets for $100. Purchase car raffle tickets for your family, or honor a teacher/other District employee!

The Dollar-a-Day campaign ends May 1! There is a donation “schoolhouse” in the school office. DSF is an all-volunteer organization raising money to help ALL Davis kids, with close to 100% of all money raised going directly back to our schools. Visit https://davisschoolsfoundation.org/ to make a donation with a credit card and to view the Events calendar to learn other ways to support our schools.

Encourage your children to participate in the Davis Schools Foundation video contest (deadline May 7). Judges are looking for students to creatively demonstrate why supporting Davis Schools Foundation is important. Videos should focus on awesome activities or programs in the Davis Schools that funding from the Davis Schools Foundation will help to save. Challenge your parents to donate to what you care about. Winners will receive $100 Target gift-cards ($20 increment cards-one winner each for the high school, junior and elementary levels). For more information about the video contest, visit https://davisschoolsfoundation.org/Documents/VideoEntryDraft_DSF.pdf

Korematsu Elementary opened in 2006 in Mace Ranch, and from the beginning, the school’s parents have worked to support an extra focus on science and nature curriculum, including an award-winning garden based learning program. With steep declines in state support, the school is raising funds to weather the storm and continue the progress in providing our children a well balanced and inspiring education.

Rominger West Winery was founded to showcase the beauty of western Yolo County and the quality of the wines produced here. Our family-owned winery, based in the heart of this agriculturally rich region, produces unique, hand-crafted wines that will enliven your friends¹ and families’ tables. The Rominger family has been in Davis for five generations and harvest the grapes used at the winery. Mark West is a Davis native and is the Rominger West wine maker.

We appreciate your support!
