At the February 3<sup>rd</sup> Parent University event, Professor Emmons will draw upon recent advances in gratitude research, and teach us how scientifically validated principles can be applied to make kids (&amp; parents) happier and more successful in every aspect of life.</p>

<p><strong>WHO:</strong> Robert Emmons has been a UC Davis Professor of Psychology since 1988. Emmons has spent more than two decades researching the nature of Gratitude, its causes, and its potential consequences for human health and well-being. He has authored over 100 original publications and several books on the topic of Gratitude and is frequently quoted in international publications such as The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Da Vinci Junior High will present an 8th grade presentation on the evening of Wednesday, 1/18/12 from 6:00 &#8211; 7:30 pm in the Da Vinci portables on the Emerson campus.  If parents and students are interested about Da Vinci Junior High this would be a great opportunity to see Project Based Learning in action.  The presentation will be an 8th grade American Studies project titled Monumental in which students create Monuments and exhibits for one of the first seven presidents.  Exhibits will be tangible, multimedia, and interactive.</p>

<p>ATS is a non-profit program that offers over 120 courses each summer in both tradition and non-tradition subjects.</p>
<p>Students are eligible to take the ATS qualifying Exam at Korematsu Elementary School on either of the following dates:</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Don&#8217;t miss the eighth annual &#8220;Home for the Holidays&#8221; community concert to be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21 at the Veterans Memorial Theatre.</p>
<p>This is not just an amazing concert, but people supporting and honoring their roots. </p>
<p>The concert, produced by Bill Fairfield, is a benefit for the Davis School Arts Foundation, which supports music and arts education in Davis public schools. The show is designed to showcase nationally recognized local musicians, many of whom attended Davis public schools, and allow some younger local performers the chance to share the stage. <p>This year&#8217;s lineup includes Chris Webster and Tracy Walton of Mumbo Gumbo in a trio with Bill Edwards, &#8220;Little Charlie&#8221; Baty with his jazz caravan, the Joe Craven trio, Rita Hosking, Yolo Mambo, the Fabletones, the Davis High School Madrigals, Madeline&#8217;s Christmas singers, and special guests.</p>
<p>Tickets are available at Watermelon Music, 207 E Street, and at Armadillo Music, 205 F Street, or by calling Armadillo at 530-758-8058.  The cost is $20 for adults and $8 for children under 18. Armadillo charges a small service charge on all sales including phone credit card sales.</p>

All attendees who entered artwork (and are present at the ceremony) will receive a prize, and winning artists will be awarded gift certificates to Alphabet Moon, karate lessons, a brand new Wii system, and more!! If you can&#8217;t make it to the ceremony, be sure to drop by the Davis Art Center&#8211;during their normal hours&#8211;before December 19th to see the show and learn more about traffic safety.
