Special School Board Meeting Tonight

Trustees meet tonight — a day earlier than usual — to discuss the school district’s fiscal situation following the latest announcement of state budget cuts. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Community Chambers at Davis City Hall, 23 Russell Blvd. It will be carried live on cable Channel 17, and as streaming video on www.djusd.tv. Associate Superintendent Bruce Colby is scheduled to make a 45-minute presentation covering “the state of the state” as well as “the state of the district.” Constructive comments and suggestions are recommended. Lunch Love Community Film and Discussion

For those of you who are interested in creating a healthy and sustainable school nutrition program, the Robert Mondavi Institute is hosting a viewing of Lunch Love Community, a collection of short films, and a lively panel discussion. Kid’s Auction Raffle Prizes Announced

On Friday, May 11th we announced the 20 winners of this year’s kids auction raffle. Thank you everyone for your participation. We would also like to thank the donors of the kids raffle: Tutti Frutti, Habit Burger, Baskin Robbins, The Hottdogger, Cultive and Katja Greeve, who not only organized the auction and the kid’s raffle this year, she also donated the Razor Scooter, movie tickets and educational games. A very successful bike-to-school day!

Thanks to everyone who encouraged their students to bike to school today. We had a huge number of bikes on campus, many more than normal. And I heard many wonderful stories of children very excited to bike, which is wonderful. We actually hit 210 bikes on campus today (I counted them all. Twice.), which is 50% more than normal.

And the added side-benefit: there was a lot less traffic in the parking lot after school!

The first raffle drawing will be this Friday for the prizes given to us by the street-smarts program. Ms. Ponce and I will try to do drawings every week after that until May 1st. I’ll be handing out more tickets at random times later in the month as well [hint hint: keep biking].

Thanks very much to the last minute volunteers that helped hand out stickers, raffle tickets and erasers! You three were a huge help!

Thank you everyone for supporting the Korematsu PTO by selling and purchasing auction raffle tickets. During the Cinco de Mayo event on Saturday the winner’s names were drawn and announced. The winners are listed below. NOTE: If you happened to keep the “red ticket” for the kids raffle not knowing what to do with it, it must be returned to the KPTO room by Thursday at 9 am to be considered.

1st Place: 3-Day Napa Valley Getaway for Two Includes 2 nights lodging in Calistoga, a picnic lunch and private tastings at two boutique wineries. Donated by The Reeves Family (a Korematsu family). Winner: Piper Bradshaw

Wednesday is Bike To School Day!

Tomorrow (Wednesday, May 9th) is national “Bike To School” day! To help celebrate this, Associate Superintendent Clark Bryant, and I will be handing out stickers, a small eraser and a raffle ticket to every student who bikes to school. A raffle will be held later in the week for bicycle-related prizes, such as horns, reflective-spoke-beads, bicycle-key-chains, water-bottles, etc. Raffle tickets will be handed out at other random times during the month of May for students who bike, in celebration of “May is Bike Month”. The final raffle will occur on June 1st.
