Reminder: Back To School Night is this Wednesday

Don’t forget that this Wednesday is back-to-school-night at Korematsu!  This is your opportunity to come visit the campus, meet your children’s teachers, their principal and other staff.  The back-to-school schedule is as follows:

6:00 new families in the MPR
6:00 4th grade science in the science room
6:30 Introduction to the Staff (MPR)
6:45 Classroom Presentations #1
7:25 Classroom Presentations #2

Also, we’ll have a KPTO table up in front of the office.  If you shop at nugget and don’t have a nugget scrip card to use yet, please please please stop by the table and get one!  Or if you simply need another one (many families have more than one shopper and it is very easy to register a second card to your existing account).

The School Year is Here!

I spent about an hour today on campus, and the “start of the school year excited electricity” is all over and you can just feel the good vibes in everyone you talk to. Registration night last Thursday went very smoothly for both the KPTO staff and the school staff. Thank you for your patience while we helped everyone through the process. Thanks especially to the many people that opted to become KPTO members this year. It is an overwhelmingly good feeling to start the year with such a strong membership devoted to providing excellent opportunities for our children.

For those that haven’t registered their children yet and haven’t found out which classroom their in, please stop by the registration tables that will be outside the front office in the morning! Please arrive early enough to get the registration paperwork turned in before the school starts at 8:30 (8:15 for Kindergartners).

After you drop off your children at their respective classrooms, please come by the MPR where we’ll have our traditional “Welcome Back Coffee”, hosted by the KPTO’s Wonderful Hospitality Committee. It’s a great place to chat about the start of the school year, meet parents that are new to the school and ask any outstanding questions. I’ll be there at 8:30 and Ms. Ponce is planning on arriving at 8:45 after her immediate school duties allow her a short break. See you then!

Korematsu’s registration day will be Thursday, August 18th, from 5-8pm in the school’s Multi-Purpose Room (MPR).

Need School Resources? Come visit the KPTO Table!

Get a copy of this year’s
school calendar at the KPTO table!

Also, please stop by the KPTO table in the MPR for information about the upcoming year and projects we’re working on. At the KPTO table you’ll find:

  • A Free 2011-2012 school event calendars
  • Cookies!
  • Volunteer Sign-Up sheets for KPTO events
  • Scrip Cards
  • KPTO Membership forms

Come Visit the Campus Computer Table!

Additionally, this year we’ll have a special table next to the stage devoted to supporting the school’s computers. Come stop by the Computer Lab table next to the stage and show your kids what the inside of a computer looks like!

Over the next 3 weeks the KPTO will be making a strong effort to raise the funds needed to update all classroom and library computers. The funds raised will be spent immediately to make these computers ready to go for this school year. The KPTO is working closely with the school’s awesome computer specialist, Julie Cuetara, to raise the funds for the following materials to support the classroom and library computers:

  • Upgrading 45 computers to 4 GB of RAM at a cost of $60 per computer
  • Upgrading 45 computers to Windows 7 at a cost of $100 per computer
  • Upgrading Microsoft Office for 35 computers at a cost of $100 per computer

We will also be continuing to save funds to replace all the lab computers as well, but this will take more time. There are no district funds available for the next few years to support the campus computers and the upgrades above are needed long before the district will be able to contribute to the technology program. If we’re going to achieve upgrading the classroom and library computers, it will only be possible with the support of Korematsu parents. KPTO board members and Julie Cuetara will be available tomorrow evening during the registration night to answer any questions about this effort. We’ll be accepting donations starting tomorrow night and any amount will be greatly appreciated.

Use Scrip to Support Our School!

Finally, if you haven’t had the chance to renew your Nugget Scrip cards, now is the time. Every year they require people to log into the Nugget Scrip website and request they continue to support our school. Nugget’s wonderful program has been one of our biggest sources of income in the past, but that support greatly diminished last year when they changed their scrip cards and not everyone renewed. We need to fix this problem!

Need a nugget scrip card? Stop by the KPTO table. We’ll have them!
