The 2010-11 Street Smarts Poster Contest is underway. Davis students in grades K-6 are invited to create original Street Smarts messages and artwork focusing on the topics of Proper Helmet Use, Safe Bicycle Riding and Crossing the Street Safely. Because of increased interest in the contest, this year Street Smarts will separate entries by grade levels, giving out 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards for both Kindergarten-3rd grades and for grades 4th-6th. Prizes include a Nintendo DSi, an iPod nano with Multi-Touch and Target gift cards. The winning posters will also be used in Street Smarts materials like newspaper ads and other displays. This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about traffic safety as well as to creatively express themselves. The 2010 STEAC (Short-Term Emergency Aid Committee) Food Drive will take place between Monday, September 27th and Thursday, October 7th. A box will be available for donations at each school. Students who would like to contribute are asked to bring the item assigned to the school. For Korematsu, we’ve been assigned “cooking oil”.

STEAC is a non-profit organization which has served very low-income families and individuals in Davis for over 43 years. It is composed almost entirely of volunteers. It maintains a food closet in Davis where distribution takes place throughout the year.

The deadline for ordering your school shirts and sweatshirts is coming up! Orders are due Friday September 24th. T-shirts and sweatshirts are
available in youth and adult sizes. Pick up an order form in the school office. Color samples and size samples are in the office as well. Please remember that the youth sweatshirts run small. Please contact auditor AT korematsupto DT org for more information.
