Silent Auction 2010 News and Information

I am Monica Reeves the co-chair of the auction committee. With the help of many, many volunteers I helped to coordinated the auction last year . Volunteers who I am grateful dedicated so many endless hours to make the auction the huge success it was.

It’s time to start planning for this year’s auction and as more information comes from the state, district and school principal, the KPTO is looking at some big deficits to fill in the oncoming years. So this year’s auction will be themed Back to Basics. The school is in need of essential curriculum, supplies and programs to help support the students and teachers.

To do this we need an army of volunteers or at least a strong special ops unit. Below is a list of opportunities to help.

Positions Available

Right now we need some big help to get the ball rolling and secure items for the auction.

Procurement Chair

This person or persons would help coordinate and collect the items for auction. This is not a job for one person. You would be given help and assistance. They would visit local business and ask for donations and collect those donations. They would also help to sell ads for the program to local businesses. Smaller jobs of this sub-committee would be procurement in town, out of town, corporate, parents, ads.

Communications/Writer

Do you have a knack for writing or like to write at the computer? Then this job many be for you. Many different opportunities to help. The various sub-committees are letter writer: procurement letters, thank you, designing the catalogue and writing the item descriptions that go in the catalogue.

Data Entering

Another job for the computer lover and excel expert. Even if you don’t know how, we will teach you. Enter data about registrants, auction items, final sales and purchasers.

More Information

I hope you would consider volunteering. We had a lot of fun last year. I promise for anyone who volunteers, a day in Napa Valley where you can come and enjoy the beautiful valley and fantastic wine all on me. And you don’t even have to bid on that one.

At last year’s auction we grossed $18,003 and because our cost were low, we netted just over $16,700. Some of that money has already been spent on binoculars for the science lab and books for the primary Take Home Reading program. If you would like to help decided how the rest of the money will be spent I welcome you to attend the next membership meeting on Wednesday, November 4th at 7pm in the Korematsu Library. The KPTO membership will be voting on the annual budget and spending for the 09/10 school year.

There will be an Auction Committee meeting following the KPTO membership meeting, at 8pm (on November 4th).

I hope to see you all there.  Contact me if you can help at danicareeves ATSIGN aol DOT com.

Monica Reeves
Auction Co-Chair
1st Vice President KPTO

Davis School Arts Foundation Call For Membership

A message from the Davis Schools Foundation:

The Davis School Arts Foundation is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization whose mission is to support and celebrate arts education in the Davis public schools. Each year the DSAF commits to raising $18,000 to the Davis Joint Unified School District. That $18,000 is then matched by the district with $16,000 cash and $2000 in in-kind services. Every dollar you donate becomes two dollars in arts experiences for our children. This $34,000 directly funds the arts programs district-wide with elementary school site grants, Hershberger Classroom Grants, Brunelle Harmony Choirs, support for a strings coach for the All-City Orchestra, the purchase and refurbishing of instruments for the lending program, and support for the orchestras, bands, choirs, and theatre programs in the secondary schools. We can’t do it without your help.
The DSAF raises funds through benefit events throughout the year, but the lion’s share comes from memberships and donations. We ask you to consider how important art, music, and performance is to your child’s school experience and join us in our mission to support and celebrate arts education in the Davis public schools. Membership forms and information about the DSAF can be found at: htp://www.dcn.davis.ca.us/go/dsaf.

Please join us in our effort by sending a donation to:
